SRT Gains Biman Bangladesh Engine Work

SR Technics counts its recent win for engine work for national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines as “another step toward fulfilling our growth strategy in international markets,” says CEO James Stewart.

International growth is key for the Mubadala subsidiary. As Stewart told Aviation Week in July, Mubadala aims to be number three with respect to revenue behind Air France Industries and Lufthansa Technik within the next five years — ”a solid number three,” Stewart noted.

Engine piece part repair is one area where SR Technics is investing in Zurich with an eye toward growth. It closed deals with Air Berlin and Etihad last fall, and it did $125 million in business last December, Stewart said, noting that Mubadala CEO Homaid Al Shemmari has stated publicly that he wants a couple more deals like this. Stewart said he expected to close 4-5 significant transactions by the end of the year.

The three-year engine services contract with Biman falls into this category, covering maintenance, repair and overhaul services for six Pratt & Whitney PW4000-94-in. engines on the Bangladeshi carrier’s Airbus A310-320 aircraft. All of the services will take place in Zurich.
