Austrian Sends CFM56s To Lufthansa Technik

Austrian Airlines signed an eight-year agreement with Lufthansa Technik to overhaul the CFM56-5B engines that power the airline’s Airbus A320 fleet. Austrian, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, also sends its CFM56-7Bs and PW4000s, which power its Boeing 737s and 767s, respectively, to LHT.

The A320 contract was officially signed a few weeks ago, but Lufthansa Technik started servicing the engines earlier this year, says corporate communications director Bernd Habbel. Lufthansa Technik also provides component and landing gear MRO services for these aircraft, as well as Austrian’s Boeing 777 aircraft. Austrian in turn does component services for Lufthansa Technik, such as certain avionics, wheels, water equipment and lights.

In related news, Deutsche Lufthansa just logged a record 100,000 flight hr. each on five GE CF6-80C2B1F engines that power Boeing 747-400s. Eight more CF6-80C2s in Lufthansa’s fleet have operated more than 99,000 flight hr. Lufthansa Technik maintains these engines.
